Do You Find Yourself Settling for the Wrong Guys?

Your Fear of Being Alone is Hindering Your Chance at Happiness

It happens more often than not; especially with young people. We settle. We fall in love with someone who treats us like gold, and then a few months later we say “he has changed” and “I don’t know what happened, he used to be so sweet”. But that’s what happens. They put their best foot forward to woo you, and once they have you, their true colors start to show. Think about it. If they treated you like trash at the beginning, do you really think that you would have been interested in the first place? Probably not.

This doesn’t mean that they have changed, and you didn’t do anything to make this happen. Some people are just going through their own issues, and unfortunately, we occasionally take the brunt of it all. But we don’t have to. You don’t have to stay with somebody that makes you feel like garbage, even if they are going through their own issues. Sometimes, for the sake of your own mental health, you have to be wholeheartedly selfish, and that’s perfectly alright.

If there is anything you take from this, it should be that you have to love yourself. Sure, sure… Everybody always says this. It is the ultimate cliché… but if you allow yourself to be treated like a punching bag, people are going to treat you like a punching bag. Simple as that. You have to realize that you deserve better. You deserve to be treated like a princess, hell, a QUEEN! And you shouldn’t expect any less.

Once you realize how much you are worth, you will stop giving people discounts, and you will see your life change drastically. Trust me when I say that the relationship you have with yourself, sets the standard for the relationships you have with other people.

I see it so often; people stay with their significant other simply because they don’t want to be alone. “He’s a jerk, but I’d rather be with him, than suffer alone”. I’m calling you out on that one. C’mon guys! Don’t waste your time! If you are single, you have the opportunity to meet a genuinely great person that could actually make you happy. But instead, you are torturing yourself with someone who makes you miserable. When you look at it like this, the solution seems pretty simple. And it should be. Happiness, should be simple.

Treat yourself to a manicure. Go shopping, alone. Take yourself out to dinner. Don’t be afraid to be seen in public alone. This doesn’t show weakness (contrary to popular belief). It shows courage and that you’re a badass. And who doesn’t wanna be known as a badass?
